Bangladesh government is going to empower police so that they could excercise executive powers for ensuring mandatory use of masks, particularly in cities and district towns, to check Covid infections.
'We will seek recommendations from DGHS and take a decision soon in this regard to make sure that all wear masks while going outside their homes,' said state minister for public administration Farhad Hossain.
He told New Age that the disease control law would be implemented strictly from now on and, besides the field administration, the police would be given the authority for ensuring mandatory use of masks.
If necessary, an ordinance would be promulgated to empower the police to so, he said.
Farhad said that some people were still ignoring the government order of mandatory use of masks exposing all to the risk of the virus infections.
'Coronavirus crisis will not go soon. For a long term intervention, we will have to make sure that all wear masks to contain the spread of the deadly virus,' he added.
The state minister said that the ongoing restrictions on public movement and overall activities might be extended by a week from May 17 to contain the Covid outbreak.
