Bangladesh Football Federation on Saturday announced a 33-member squad for national team camp ahead of their remaining three matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in Qatar in June.
The called-up players will join the camp on May 12 before leaving from Qatar on May 21 or 22 to play their return-leg matches of the five-team Group E against Afghanistan, India and Oman on June 3, 7 and 15 respectively at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
The squad includes comprised of four goalkeepers, 12 defenders, seven midfielders, five wingers, five forwards and also had five players from the Under-23 side.
Head coach Day dropped Abahani Limited defender Tutul Hossain Badsha, who was part of the Nepal tri-nation in March, from the squad.
Bashundhara Kings defenders Topu Barman, Finnish-born Bangladeshi Tariq Raihan Kazi and winger Mohammad Ibrahim got recalled alongside Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited defender Reazul Karim for the camp.
Day and two other English two other coaching staff – assistant coach Stuart Watkiss and goalkeeping coach Les Cleevely – are schedule to arrive in Dhaka on Monday. The BFF announce the squad after the national team’s committee virtual meeting on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Bashundhara Kings are scheduled to leave for Maldives today [Sunday] with 26 players and 19 officials, to start their AFC Cup Group-D campaign by taking on hosts Maziya Sports and Recreation Club on May 14.
The Bangladesh Premier League champions will play their next match against Indian outfits ATK Mohun Bagan on May 20 and are scheduled to return on the next day.
Bangladesh Premier League champions Kings will play their next match on May 17 against the play-off winners between Bengaluru FC of India or Club Eagles of Maldivian before taking on another Indian outfit ATK Mohun Bagan on May 20. A total of 10 players from the Kings were selected for the national camp and they will join the team in directly Qatar from Maldives on May 21, said national team committee chairman Kazi Nabi Ahmed on Saturday.
BFF has also requested the Qatar Football Federation to arrange two practice matches for the national team against two top-tier teams on May 25 and 27. ‘We hope Qatar will keep our request for two practice matches on May 25 and 27,’ Nabil said.
