A woman filed a rape case on Friday against Hefazat-e-Islam leader Jakaria Noman Faizy just two days after his arrest pertaining to a case filed over the clash and violence during the two-day visit of Indian prime minister in Bangladesh in March.
Islamist preacher Jakaria was the publicity secretary of the recently defunct central committee of Hefazat-e-Islam.
Chattogram superintendent of police SM Rashidul Hoque told New Age that the woman, 25, filed the case accusing Jakaria of raping her for more than a year at Hathazari in the district.
The case was filed with Hathazari Police Station at about 1:00am on Friday, he added.
‘The woman complained that Jakaria raped her making false promise of marriage from November 2019 keeping her at a rented house at Hathazari,’ he said.
‘Jakaria raped the woman several times taking her to different hotels, she mentioned,’ the SP said.
‘As Jakaria has already been arrested, we will show him arrested in the rape case. He will be interrogated,’ he said.
The police on Wednesday arrested Jakaria in Cox’s Bazar for his alleged involvement in recent violence during anti-Modi protest at Hathazari.
A Chattogram court on Thursday afternoon granted investigators five days to question Jakaria Noman Faizy in police custody.
Judge Shariar Iqbal of the Chattogram Senior Judicial Magistrate Court granted the prayer, said SP Rashidul Hoque on Thursday at a press briefing.
Rashidul said that came to know about the extra-marital relationship of Jakaria tracking his phone.
‘We’ve got the chat history and messages while checking his mobile. Jakaria also admitted the matter during interrogation. He is ashamed of such activity,’ he said.
However, Jakaria’s lawyer Mohammad Nezam Uddin Nizam told New Age that his client was innocent.
