Mohammedan Sporting Club beat Saif Sporting Club by 2-1 in their second-leg match of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Earlier in the first leg, Saif beat the Black and White outfits by identical margin.
In the day’s second match at the same venue, Chittagong Abahani beat Arambagh Krira Sangha by a solitary goal.
Cameroonian forward Yassan Ouatching and Malian forward Souleymane Diabate scored one goal each for Mohammedan while forward Maraz Hossain pulled one goal back for Saif SC.
Both sides fought hard and kept their post intact in the first half before Ouatching broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute.
Saif goalkeeper Pappu Hossain failed to stop a flick from Rakib Khan Evan inside the box and Ouatching scored from the rebounder.
Forward Maraz Hossain restored the parity for Saif in the 69th minute when his powerful shot from outside the box entered the net following a short pass by Nigerian midfielder John Okoli.
Diabate confirmed Mohammedan’s three points six minutes from the stipulated time with a fine solo effort.
The Malian slotted the ball home after dribbling past two Saif defenders and confirmed Mohammedan’s seventh win in 14 matches.
This was the second consecutive win for Mohammedan in the second-leg as they earlier beat Arambagh Krira Sangha also by 2-1 margin while Saif started the second-leg with a goalless draw against Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society.
With the result, Mohammedan moved up to fifth position of the table with 25 points from 14 games while Saif dropped to sixth with 23 points with same number of outings.
In the other match, after a barren first-half midfielder Charles Didier scored the all-important goal from a 35-yard free-kick in the 79th minute.
Earlier in the late match on Tuesday, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra defeated Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society by 3-0 goals.
Tajikistani defender Siyovakhsh Asrorov, Kyrgyzstani midfielder Bakhtiyar Duyshobekov and Brazilian forward Giancarlo Rodrigues scored once each in the third, 35th and 70th minutes respectively for Russel.
