The Al-Arafah Islami Bank Men’s Junior Under-21 Asia Cup Hockey got postponed for the third time due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, said Bangladesh Hockey Federation general secretary Mohammad Yousuf on Wednesday.
The 10-team junior Asia Cup was originally scheduled to be held in Dhaka from June 4 to 12 in 2020 but the Covid -19 situation forced Asian Hockey Federation to reschedule it to January 21 to 30 this year.
The tournament was again rescheduled to July 1 to 10 for the same reason before getting postponed for the third time on Wednesday.
‘A week ago we sought permission and guidelines from the government to host the tournament, but the sports ministry today [Wednesday] instructed us to postpone the meet,’ Yousuf told New Age.
’We don’t know when the government will lift the travel ban. So, we proposed to Asian Hockey Federation to postpone the tournament until the situation becomes normal,’ he added.
The Junior Asia Cup hockey is also the qualifier for the next FIH Junior World Cup Hockey in India.
