2 ‘Neo-JMB members held in Dhaka

Members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit under Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested two suspected members of the banned extremist group Neo-JMB at Matuail in Dhaka.

One of the arrested is Sakib Ahmed Chowdhury alias Jaki while the other’s name was not disclosed.

Tipped off, a team of investigation division of the CTTC unit conducted drives in Matuail area under Jatrabari police station on Tuesday and arrested the duo along with two mobile phone sets,  said additional deputy commissioner  of the DMP (Media) Iftekhairul Islam.

Sources at the CTTC said the arrestees were active members of Neo-JMB.

They gathered at Matuail to plan sabotage in Dhaka, they said.

The arrested have been involved in carrying out propaganda on social media like Facebook and other online platforms inspired by violent extremist ideology.

The accused used to communicate online with members of various levels including the top Neo-JMB leaders, the said.

Arrested Shakib worked as a freelancer after completing study at a private university in Sylhet and the other, a juvenile accused, is a student of Sylhet Government Primary Pilot High School, according to the Counter Terrorism Investigation Division.
