A total of 160 Bangladeshi migrants returned home on Wednesday from Libya by a chartered fight.

Bangladesh government, in cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration, has brought back the migrants from Benghazi.

Officials said that the migrants were trapped in the war-torn country after they lost their jobs mostly due to coronavirus pandemic.

Wage Earners Welfare Board deputy director Fakhrul Alam, who works for the welfare desk of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, said that some of the returnees were injured.

IOM public relocation officer Sariful Islam confirmed that the chartered flight landed at Dhaka airport in the morning.

Officials said that Bangladesh so far received a total of 1,379 migrants from Libya and this was the 9th flight.

Officials said that the migrants worked in Libya for 7 to 12 years but could not return for unavailability of the international flights.
