Man shot dead by Indian nationals at Sylhet border

Indian nationals shot and killed a Bangladeshi man along Jaintapur border in Sylhet on Tuesday afternoon.

The dead is Makbul Hossain, 28, son of Jamal Mia of Kendi Jhingabari village at Jaintapur, police said.

Locals said that Makbul along with his associates entered India along Dibir Haor at Jaintapur in the afternoon to smuggle out a consignment of green peas from the country.

Ethnic minority Khasias at that time opened fire on the suspects.

Makbul was shot and died on the spot.

The locals said that accomplices of Makbul’s accomplices dragged his body out of India and ran away leaving the body on no man’s land to escape arrest.    

Jaintapur police officer-in-charge Golam Dastagir confirmed New Age of the incident and said that they recovered the body at about 2:00pm and sent that to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
