The Detective Branch of the police rescued Hefazat-e-Islami leader Mamunul Haqus’s ‘second wife’ Jannat Ara Jhorna from a house at Basila in the capital on Tuesday after her father had filed a general dairy about her missing.
She was rescued three weeks after she had reportedly gone missing.
DB deputy commissioner for Motijheel Asaduzzaman said that they rescued Jannat from a house of Mamunul’s relative on Tuesday a day after her father filed the GD on Monday.
She informed police that she had been confined in the house for past 10–12 days and earlier, she had been confined in another house.
On April 3, Narayanganj police claimed that they rescued Hefazat’s then-joint secretary general Mamunul after locals had confined him in a resort in the district while he was spending private time there.
Since then, Jannat had been missing.
On Monday, her son and her father filed general diaries about her missing with Paltan and Kalabagan police stations.
Mamunul claimed her as his second wife and in a Facebook live later, he said that the situation in the Sonargaon resort was staged to malign the Islamic force in the country.
On April 18, a joint team of Tejgaon police and Dhaka Metropolitan Police detectives arrested Mamunul at Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrassah at Mohammadpur in Dhaka.
He is now in the second phase of a seven-day remand in police custody, facing interrogation by police investigators at the metropolitan police’s DB office.
