Cop arrested on charge of raping ex-wife in Jashore

A team of Jashore Kotwali police arrested a cop on Saturday on charge of raping his former wife. A case was lodged with Kotwali police station in this connection.

The arrested was identified as Azizul Haque Sabuj, 45, sub-inspector of the police and recently he had been transferred to Khulna range from Dhaka, police sources said.

He was arrested at a house near Hafizia Madrassah at Barandipara in Jashore town on Saturday.

According to the case statement filed with Kotwali police, the victim got married to the police official on December 27, 2019. He used to live in Dhaka for his job purpose and come to Jashore often to live with her.

‘He divorced me on February 23, 2021, after getting married to another woman named Laboni on December 14, 2020. Aziz rapped me against my will on early Saturday entering my house. The police rescued me after I made a phone call at 999 while he was in the washroom,’ the cases statement read.

Confirming the information, Kotwali police officer-in-charge Tajul Islam told reporters that they made the arrest and rescued the victim getting a call at 999.
