GU students celebrate Shakespeare Day

English club of Green University of Bangladesh in tandem with the department of English celebrated Shakespeare Day 2021 organising a webinar on Saturday.

Pro-vice-chancellor of Green University Abdur Razzaque was present as the chief guest at the programme, which was chaired by chairperson of English department K M Wazed Kabir.

Poet Mostafa Tofayel Hossain delivered the keynote speech. Besides, a number of students presented papers along with the faculties.

The English club traditionally celebrates Shakespeare Day by staging plays. From 2016 to 2018, they have staged full-length versions of five well-known Shakespeare’s plays namely The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, Othello, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth.

The team of Othello has also performed at British Council and Green University auditorium. Besides, GU students have staged Wole Soyinka’s The Lion and the Jewel at Dhaka University. The English club’s next project is Julius Caesar.
