The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has warned that the downflow of upstream water due to moderate to heavy rainfall in the Indian states of Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura may trigger a flash flood in the country’s haor areas.
The flash flood may hamper boro harvest in the haor areas in the country’s north-eastern districts.
Hence, the centre under the Bangladesh Water Development Board has opened a control room in this regard under the supervision of the centre’s executive engineer M Arifuzzaman Bhuyan, said a press release issued on Sunday.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, there has been a tendency of moderate to heavy rainfall in the north-eastern part of the country and in the Indian states of Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura this week and the rain may continue for some time.
