AL-backed councillor shoots at man over mosque committee dispute

A man was injured as an Awami League-backed ward councillor opened fire over a dispute over formation of a mosque committee in Raozan municipal area in Chattogram on Wednesday.

The bullet-injured, Shahabuddin Khan, 49, of West Gohira of Raozan municipality was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, said CMCH police outpost assistant sub-inspector Shilabrata Barua.

Shahabuddin’s brother Abdullah Al Mamun told New Age that Awami League-backed councillor Alamgir Ali opened shot at Shahabuddin at Abuddar Bari at about 2:30pm following dispute over the of the committee for Sheikh Ibrahim Jame Mosque, he said.

Chattogram district police assistant superintendent for Rangunia circle Md Anwar Hossain said, ‘We have already started investigation into the incident.’

Alamgir Ali’s mobile phone was found switched off and he made no response to repeated text messages for his comments on the incident.
