Dhaka University vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman on Wednesday expressed deep shock at the death of folklorist and Bangla Academy president Shamsuzzaman Khan.
In a message, the VC said that the education and cultural sectors faced an irrecoverable loss through the death of the Ekushey Padak and Independence Award winner professor.
‘He will be remembered for his contributions to the Bengali language, literature and folklore research,’ he said.
Akhtaruzzaman prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Folklorist and Bangla Academy president Shamsuzzaman died of COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday noon.
He was 81.
