The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested five members of a teenage gang on an allegation that they were taking preparation for a robbery at Tejgaon Industrial Area in Dhaka.
RAB-2 director Lieutenant Colonel Imran Ullah Sarkar on Monday said that a RAB ream arrested the five teenagers, aged between 13 and 15, and seized sharp weapons from them Sunday night.
He said that the gang had been intimidating pedestrians with weapons and snatching away their valuables for days in different parts of the capital.
Imran said that on a tip-off of a robbery plan, RAB launched a drive near the railway market at Tejgaon Industrial Area Sunday night and arrested the five teenagers, including the gang leader.
Teen gangs across the country have emerged as a major concern for the society as they are involved in various crimes, including robbery, murder, rape and turf war.
There have been several murders in the capital and elsewhere involving juvenile gangs in the past few months.
In the latest incident, a teenage boy was killed and another was injured in an attack reportedly by the members of a ‘teenagers’ gang’ in the city’s Sutrapur area on the night of March 30.
