LDA demands aid for workers during restrictions

The leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance, a combine of eight left-leaning parties, on Monday called upon the government to give special food and monetary assistance to the working class to run their families.

LDA held countrywide rallies in district towns and in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka. Coordinator of the combine, Socialist Party of Bangladesh central leader Bazlur Rashid Firoz, presided over the Dhaka meeting.

Firoz said that the government was going to start countrywide ‘lockdown’ to contain corona infection from April 14, which would increase sufferings of the working class and the common people.

The marginal working class would not get work during lockdown increasing their sufferings to run their families, Firoz said. 

He called on the government to give food for one month and Tk 5000 cash to each hapless family.

Communist Party of Bangladesh presidium member Abdullah Al Kafee Ratan said the government failed to take coordinated steps to save the people from coronavirus infections as the health sector was engulfed in corruption.

Central leaders Manas Nandi of SPB (Marxist), Akbar Khan of Revolutionary Workers Party, Nazrul Islam United Communist League, Bachchu Bhuiyan Ganosamhati Andolan and Democratic Revolutionary Party leader Shahidul Islam Sobuj spoke at the rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads of Paltan area.
