Woman killed over land dispute

A woman was shot dead and two others sustained bullet injuries in an attack by rivals at Bodamazir Ghona of Barobakia union under Pekua upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Monday.

The dead, Selina Akter, 37, was wife of Faridul Alam and the injured are Chittagong University student Nazmus Sakib, 23, son of Mohammad Salim and Saiful Islam, son of Nurul Absar of the area.

Pekua police station officer-in-charge Saifur Rahman Majumdar said that Mamun, a resident of the area, had an enmity with Selina over the ownership of a piece of land.

As a consequence, Mamun along with his associates swooped on the house of Selina and opened fire early Monday at about 2:30am, leaving Selina dead on the spot and two others injured.

The injured were admitted to Pekua hospital but Nazmus Sakib was shifted to Chittagong Medical College hospital as her condition was critical.

Hearing the gunfire, local people rushed to the spot, caught Mahmudul Karim and Mofijur Rahman and handed them to police.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Cox’s Bazar sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case has been filed with Pekua police station in this connection.
