A man was slaughtered by his stepbrother at Pragpur village of Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia on Sunday.

The victim was Famid Hasan, 40, son of Abdus Sattar, a resident of the upazila.

Famid’s stepbrother Milon struck his neck with a sharp sickle while he was drinking tea at a shop next to his house at about 8:00am, said Daulatpur police officer-in-charge (investigation) Shahadat Hossain.

The attack left Famid dead on the spot and on information, a team of Daulatpur police sent the body to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy, the officer said.

Milon might have killed Famid over their dispute about drug dealings as both were involved in smuggling drugs, the officer suspected.

Police were trying to arrest Milon, he added.

Famid was in jail for 14 years in a murder case in India and is also accused of multiple rape incidents, the police officer claimed.
