The owner of the tilted five-storied building in Chattogram city’s Enayetbazar Goalpara area started the process of demolition of the building on Sunday.

Dismantling the doors and windows began Sunday noon, said sub-inspector Robiul Islam, in-charge of CRB police outpost.

The building, owned by Kartik Ghosh, tilted on Saturday night. Later, police and fire service authorities evacuated the residents to safer places to avert accident.

Five families lived in the building while around 70 families lived in adjacent two buildings which were vacated early Sunday, said Mohammad Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station.

Electricity, gas and water supply lines of the building were disconnected on Saturday night. All the adjacent shops were asked to keep closed until further notice, said the OC.

Chattogram Development Authority’s chief town planner Md Shahinul Islam Khan told New Age that the building was constructed violating the plan approved by the authority.

Actions would be taken against the owner of the tilted building, he said.
