A Gazipur court on Thursday sent Rafiqul Islam Madani to jail after he was sued under Digital Security Act on charges of delivering anti-state and provocative speeches.
Gazipur Senior Judicial Magistrate Shariful Islam sent him to jail after he was produced before his court.
Earlier at Wednesday night, the Rapid Action Battalion filed a case with Gachha police station in Gazipur against the Islamic preacher, hours after he was arrested at a location in Netrokona.
RAB Nayek Subedar Mohammad Abdul Khaleque filed the case, Gazipur Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner Mohammad Iltut Mish told New Age.
An official of Gachha police station said that the case under DSA was lodged as Rafiqul tried to create chaos in the country and destabilise the society by making imprudent statements and spreading it through social media.
The police official said that RAB handed Rafiqul over to the Gachha police on Thursday morning.
On Wednesday morning, RAB detained Rafiqul at a location in Netrokona on charge of spreading anti-state and provocative statements.
