The Kushtia police have attached assistant sub-inspector Golam Rabbani to the police lines from the in-service training centre in the district after he criticised in a Facebook video journalists, and the confinement of Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque in a resort in Narayanganj on Saturday, officials said on Monday.

Kushtia police superintendent Md Kairul Alam said that they attached Rabbani on Sunday to the police lines and initiated an inquiry.

The police headquarters’ media and public relations wing, however, said that Rabbani was suspended and an inquiry was initiated.

Police officials said that Rabbani joined the police in 2005 in Dinajpur.

In a video, Rabbani on Sunday criticised the journalists who had demanded that the Hefazat leader should show his marriage certificate during his confinement with a woman in the resort in Narayanganj.

Mamunul said that she was his second wife.

Rabbani alleged that journalists usually took bribes and committed crimes.

He could not be reached for comments.
