Jamaat activist held for sharing PM’s distorted photo

Police on Saturday night arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami activist allegedly for sharing a distorted picture of prime minister Sheikh Hasina on social media.

The arrested was identified as Rakibul Islam, 35, son of Abul Kashem, of Meherchondi, adjacent to the Rajshahi University campus.

Siddiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station, said that Rakibul shared a distorted picture of the prime minister on his facebook timeline a few days ago.

Later, the Awami League leaders and activists caught Rakibul at RU station market area at about 9:00pm on Saturday and handed him over to police.

Siddiqur Rahman said that Rakibul admitted that he shared the distorted picture on his facebook timeline.

Rakibul was shown arrested in the case under Digital Security Act filed with the police station by Raihan Kabir, an AL activist, the OC said, adding that a Rajshahi court sent him to jail.
