A case was filed against former NBR Global Bank managing director Prashanta Kumar Halder and four other people on Sunday for not paying money to an entrepreneur after buying shares of his construction company.
Mohammad Abdul Alim Chowdhury, former managing director of Clewiston Foods and Accommodation, filed the case with the court of Chattogram metropolitan magistrate Sarwar Jahan, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Rubel Paul.
The other accused in the case are Md Zahangir Alam from Banani area in Dhaka, Md Siddiqur Rahman from Uttara area in Dhaka, Uzzal Kumar Nandi from Tejgoan area in Dhaka and Ratan Kumar Biswas from Krishnagar area in Pirojpur, according to the case statement.
The court accepted the complaint and directed the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the charges and assigned June 16, 2021 for next hearing and asked the investigators to submit a report to that end on the day, the lawyer said.
The lawyer, quoting case statement, said that the accused took over Abdul Alim Chowdhury’s share of Clewiston Foods and Accommodation, which negotiated a deal with American Radisson brand for constructing a hotel in Cox’s Bazar named ‘Radisson Blu Hotel Cox’s Bazar’, after Abdul Alim failed to get loan from a bank.
Later, the accused took over Abdul Alim’s 55 per cent shares out of 64 per cent shares of Clewiston Foods and Accommodation. But the accused did not pay to Abdul Alim any amount for the share, the lawyer said.
PK Halder on October 23, 2019 fled the country after allegedly embezzling over Tk 10,000 crore by taking loans from different financial institutions in the name of companies owned by him and his family members, according to ACC officials.
He is now facing several probes of the commission, said the ACC officials.
