10 injured in Kushtia villagers’ clash

At least ten people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at village Boholbaria under Mirpur upazila in Kushtia district Thursday night.

The injured are Ripon, son of Atiyar Rahman, Jasim, son of Liaquat Ali, Sahabul and Gama Mondol, sons of Shamser Mondol, residents of the upazila.

Quoting local people, Mirpur police officer-in-charge Golam Mostofa said that there had been a longstanding dispute between Atiyar Rahman and Shamser Mondol over the ownership of a piece of land.

As a result, the supporters of Shamser Mondol attacked the shop of Atiyar Rahman with weapons.

The supporters of the two groups, at on stage, swooped on each other, leaving ten people injured.

The injured were taken to Mirpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment, the police officer said.

The two groups also set fire to different shops and houses during the clash.

Additional police personnel had been deployed in the area to avert any further untoward situation, the officer-in-charge added.
