The bodies of a woman and her three-year-old son were found in a lake at Karail Slum at Banani in the capital on Tuesday.
The victims are Hashi Begum, 26, and her son Nirob Hossain.
On information, the police sent the bodies to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Nur-E- Azam Mia, officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station.
The victim’s family claimed that Hashi was murdered by her husband Rubel Hossain, a mason by profession. Hashi’s brother Mehedi Hasan alleged that Rubel told him over phone that he had dumped his sister body in the lake.
Hashi, earlier, told her family that she felt her life under threat from her husband.
The police suspected that Rubel might have killed his wife and son and run away.
Mehedi said that Rubel married Hashi five years ago and their relationship became bitter two years ago with Rubel starting to torture Hashi.
Unable to bear her husband’s torture, hashi left Cumilla for Dhaka nearly a month ago and a week ago, Rubel took her to Cumilla but she returned to Karail with her son the following day, Mehedi said. Rubel also came back to the slum Monday afternoon and stayed with his wife and son on night, he said.
Mehedi alleged that Rubel strangulated Hasi and Nirob on the night and dumped their bodies in the lake.
