The teachers, students, officers and employees of the University of Science and Technology Chattogram formed a human chain in front of the campus on Thursday protesting at the CDA drive of demolishing the academic building without prior notice.

A USTC press release said that the university authorities have been conducting academic activities for 15 years at the 16-storeyed building constructed as per the design approved by the Chattogramme Development Authority.

But the ongoing CDA drive damaged valuable research equipment of the laboratories, classrooms, libraries and teachers’ offices and the building has been exposed to collapse pushing the future of the students into uncertainty.

The protest rally, led by USTC vice-chancellor Md Jahangir Alam, demanded an immediately halt to the drive.
