The police arrested a man at Joydebpur of Gazipur on Friday pertaining to a case filed against him under the controversial Digital Security Act for reportedly criticising the prime minister Sheikh Hasina and army chief general Aziz Ahmed in Facebook posts.

The arrested is Babul Hossain Khan, a man in his forties and resident of Joydebpur.

Joydebpur Police Station officer-in-charge Mamun Al Rashid said that local journalist Monir Hossain Sumon filed the case alleging that Babul had made derogatory comments against the prime minister and the army chief in some Facebook posts.

The comments had tarnished the image of the country, the plaintiff also claimed.

The OC said that Babul runs a shop of rickshaw parts and he was arrested on Friday after the case was filed.

Police placed Babul before a court on Saturday afternoon that sent him to judicial custody.
