A Chattogram court on Monday sentenced nine people to death over the murder of an expatriate man in 2003 at Fatikchari in Chattogram.
Judge Begum Farzana Akter of Additional District Sessions Judge Court-4 passed the order and fined them Tk 20,000 each, Md Nasir Uddin, additional public prosecutor of the court, told New Age.
The convicts were Nasir, 30, Babul, 28, Shahin, 27, Nurul Islam, 32, Jobayer, 23, Didar, 22, Abu Bakar, 26, Jangu, 35, and Ismail, 24.
The judge delivered the verdict in presence of Shahin while the eight other convicts remained fugitive, the prosecutor said.
According to the case statement, Nesar Ahmed, an expatriate was slashed to death by the criminals over a personnel feud on November 1 in 2003 in Fatikchari upazila.
The killers dumped the body at a marsh land and, in the following morning, locals spotted the body of the victim whose hands and legs were found tied. Victim’s wife Morsheda Akter filed a murder case with Fatickchari police station on the next day.
After the investigation, police pressed charges against the nine accused on May 14 in 2004 while another court framed charges against them on March 20, 2007.
Total 10 witnesses had testified in the case, according to the prosecutor.
