Prisoner ‘missing’ from Chattogram jail

A prisoner, also a prime accused of a murder case, of Chattogram Central Jail had remained missing inside the jail since Saturday morning.

The jail authority on Saturday afternoon lodged a general diary with Kotwali police station after being failed to trace the prisoner, said the police.

According to the GD, the prisoner is Md Farhad Hossain alias Rubel, from Raipura area of Narsingdi. His prisoner id number is 2547/21.

Mohammad Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, confirmed the matter to New Age.

The OC said that Rubel had gone missing after the jail authority opened the lock of the cell on Saturday morning.

The jail authority filed a missing GD with the police station in the afternoon, the OC said.

Rubel was in Chattogram Central Jail from February 9 in connection with a murder case filed with Sadarghat police station, said Nezam Uddin.

Senior jail superintendent Md Shafiqul Islam Khan and jailer Md Rafiqul Islam did not respond over phone.

However, the jail sources said that prison guards searched for the prisoner inside the jail suspecting that he hid himself inside the jail.

According to the police, a businessman named Abul Kalam Azad was stabbed to death by miscreants at SRB Gate area under Sadarghat police station on February 5. Rubel was arrested in this connection on February 9 after the victim’s mother Marzina Begum filed a case with the police station.
