Shana ends campaign with bronze

Premier Bangladesh archer Ruman Shana ended his campaign in the Bangabandhu 12th National Archery Championship with a bronze medal in the men’s recurve singles’ event at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.

Shana beat Ashikur Rahman by 6-4 sets for a bronze.

Earlier, Shana lost to Hakim Ahmed Rubel in the semi-finals by 6-5 set in a tie-breaker while Ashikur lost to Abdur Rahman Alif by 6-2 set.

Rubel and Alif will play in the gold medal deciding match today. 

Dhaka District Sports Association and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan will play the men’s recurve team final after they respectively beat Shana’s Ansar team and the Police team by 5-1 and 6-2 sets in the semi-finals.   

Despite below par show, Shana was happy with his performance in the championship.

‘I am happy with my results because I played with a shoulder injury,’ Shana said.

‘I have been suffering from a shoulder injury for the last four months. I’m gradually recovering. If I can play regularly and can recover from the injury I hope to regain my form.’

In the women’s recurve singles’ event, Diya Siddiki secured bronze medal beating Ety Khatun by 6-0 sets.

Mehenaj Akter Monira and Najmin Khatun will play the final after they beat Diya and Ety by 6-0 and 6-4 sets respectively in the semi-finals.

Police bagged bronze medal in the women’s team event after they beat Ansar in a tie-breaker by 5-4 sets.

Army Archery Club and BKSP will play the women’s recurve team event final after both sides won by 6-2 sets against Ansar and Police respectively in the semi-finals.

In the men’s compound singles’ event, Ashim Kumar Das beat Ashikuzzaman by 144- 142 points to grab the bronze medal.

Himu Bachhar and Aishwarzo Rahman Titas will battle for the gold medal after they beat Sohel Rana and Ashikuzzaman by 146-145 points in a tie-breaker in the semi-finals.

Ritu Akter secured bronze medal in the women’s compound singles’ event after she beat Bonna Akther by 136- 135 points. Roksana Akter and Susmita Banik reached the women’s compound singles’ final after they defeated Bonna and Ritu by 143-138 and 137-134 points respectively.
