A Chattogram court on Tuesday asked an aggrieved person to lodge a complaint with the appropriate court over torturing and injecting poison in a bid to kill the plaintiff’s husband in jail.

Judge Hossain Mohammad Reza of Chattogram metropolitan magistrate court-2 sent back the complainant with the direction, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Bhulan Lal Bhowmik.

The appropriate court for the allegations was metropolitan session judge court, the lawyer said, adding that they would file the complaint with the judge court against Chattogram Central Jail superintendent and three others.

On Monday, Jharna Rani Debnath, a resident of Dakkhin Kattoli of Pahartali in Chattogram, filed the complaint with the magistrate court-2 accusing murder attempt on her husband Rupom Kanti Debnath, who has been in jail since December 15, 2020.

In the complaint, Jharna sued Chattogram Central Jail superintendent, jailer, on-duty assistant surgeon and one Ratan Bhattacharjee, for torturing and injecting poison in a bid to kill her husband in jail.

Lawyer Bhulan Lal referring to the case statement, said that the plaintiff’s husband was arrested in a case filed by Ratan as he had enmity with Rupom over monetary transaction and the accused persons in collusion with each other tortured Rupom with electric shock and poison injection in a bid to kill him in jail.

Rupom was undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital under jail custody, according to the lawyer.
