Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society came from behind to hold second placed Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to a 1-1 draw in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
In the other match of the day, Mohammedan Sporting Club beat Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 2-0 goals at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla.
In Dhaka, after a barren first half Uzbekistan midfielder Vali Jonov Otabek gave Jamal the lead with a stunning strike as his corner from the left side curled into Rahamtganj’s net in the 49th minute.
Rahamtganj were in level terms within two minutes as Ivory Coast forward Lorougnon Crist Remi volleyed the ball following a long pass from midfield in the 51st minute.
Jamal were reduced to 10-man in the stoppage time of the match when their Gambian forward Sulayman Shillah received his second yellow card after committing a foul on Remi.
In Cumilla, Malian forward Souleymane Diabate gave Mohammedan the lead in the 35th minute before defender Mounzir Coulidiati of Burkina Faso doubled the margin in the 61st minute.
Despite the draw, Jamal maintained their second place in the table with 23 points from 11 games, 11 points behind leaders Bashundhara Kings, who have already played their all 12 matches of the first leg.
Jamal secured six wins and five draws while the ninth-placed Rahmatganj earned 10 points from 11 outings as they registered two wins against four draws and five losses.
With the win Mohammedan stepped up to fourth from sixth, leapfrogging Saif Sporting Club and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra respectively with 19 points from 11 games with five wins, four draws and two losses.
Muktijoddha were in 11th place with nine points from 11 games with two wins, three draws and six losses.
