DU JCD demands immediate release of fellow activists

The Dhaka University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on Monday brought out a protest procession on the campus demanding the immediate release of the fellow activists who had been arrested over a clash between the police and JCD activists on Sunday.
The procession brought out from the Teacher-Student Centre, held a rally at the altar of the Antiterrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus.
DU unit of JCD member secretary Amanullah Aman said, ‘The police arrested students on the DU campus. The university administration is indifferent to the arrests. We protest and condemn it.’
Speakers at the rally also demanded withdrawal of the charges filed against JCD activists by the police.
They also threatened tougher programmes if their demands were not met.
On Sunday, at least 300 activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party were sued and 12 were arrested over a clash between the police and JCD activists during their procession in National Press Club area in Dhaka.
JCD activists earlier started gathering in front of the NPC at about 10:00am for holding a demonstration protesting at the government move of cancelling the gallantry award of former president Ziaur Rahman and the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail.
