Rapid Action Battalion arrested an activist of banned organisation Hizb-ut-Tahrir in Sylhet on Saturday night with jihad related and anti-democracy leaflets in his possession.

The arrested was Mohaiminul Islam alias Nayeem, 24, a resident of Payer Khola village at Chowddagram upazila in Cumilla.

Nayeem has been studying in a private university of Sylhet and living at a rented house in the city’s Chhara Dighirpar, the RAB said.

RAB-9 media officer Afsan Al Alam told New Age that, acting on a tip-off, a team of the battalion raided the rented house and arrested Nayeem at around 10:00pm on Saturday.

‘The arrested was handed over to Kotwali police after filing a case under the Anti-terrorism Act against him in the night,’ the RAB officer said.

Kotwali police officer-in-charge SM Abu Farhad said that Nayeem was produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate court on Sunday afternoon and the court ordered sending him to jail.
