Law enforcers detained three Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists in Teachers-Students Centre area of Dhaka University on Sunday night at around 7.45 pm.
Aman Ullah Aman, member secretary of DU unit of JCD, confirmed the matter.
The detainees are DU unit of JCD convening member Anisur Rahman, organising secretary of AF Rahman Hall Zulfikar Jisan and Atik Murshed.
DU proctor Golam Rabbani said, ‘I have learned the matter. We are trying to know who were detained and why.’
Earlier on the day, the police arrested at least nine Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists in front of the National Press Club after a clash between the law enforcers and JCD activists.
The process of filing a case with Shahbagh police station was underway.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner for Ramna Zone Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the matters adding that they were verifying the names and identities of the arrested.
The clash erupted at about 11:00am when the police charged baton on the JCD activists to disperse them when they tried to hold a demonstration on the spot, witnesses said.
Many injured activists were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but the police raided the spot and detained seven, witnesses added.
JCD activists earlier started gathering in front of the Press Club at about 10:00am for holding a demonstration protesting at a government move of cancelling the gallantry award of late president Ziaur Rahman and the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail.
JCD activists said that the police charged baton on them and lobbed tear gas shells as soon as they came out of the Press Club to hold their programme.
ADC Harun, however, said that the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists attacked them and hurled bricks at police members.
