A case was lodged with Baghaichari police station on Thursday against 10 activists of a faction of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samity and eight unnamed others for killing Rupkari union parishad member Samar Bijoy Chakma, 38, at Baghaichari in Rangamati on Wednesday.

Rupkari union council member Binoy Chakma lodged the case against PCJSS Santu Larma faction’s Baghaichari upazila unit general secretary and former upazila chairman Bara Rishi Chakma and activists Monimoy Chakma, Shubhasish Chakma, Subhas Basu Chakma, Palak Talukder, Daya Sindhu Chakma, Tridip Chakma, Barun Chakma, Sohagh Chakma and Pravat Chakma, said the police station officer-in-charge  Anwar Hossain Khan.

He said that eight other unidentified people were also made accused in the case.

None was arrested so far in the case until Thursday afternoon, he said, but the police were investigating into the matter.

Police officials said that the deceased Samar Bijoy Chakma was the school affairs secretary of the upazila unit of MN Larma faction of PCJSS.

They also suspected that the murder was preplanned and ensued from a rivalry of the two factions of the PCJSS over establishing supremacy in the area.

Samar was shot to death at a room of upazila project implementation office at the upazila parishad complex, said Baghaichari upazila nirbahi officer Shariful Islam.
