Professor M Saidur Rahman, student adviser and Bangla department chairman of Islamic University, died of COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital on Thursday.
He was 60.
He breathed his last at Ibne Sina Hospital in Dhaka at about 6:00am, IU Bangla department Professor M Rashiduzzaman said.
He was admitted to Bangladesh Specialised Hospital with COVID-19 on February 2. Later, he was shifted to the intensive care unit of Ibne Sina Hospital three days before, he said.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter to mourn his death.
His body will be taken to Katlagari village of Sailkupa upazila.
Later, his body will be taken to Islamic University after his first namaz-e-janaza at Katlagari village.
He will be buried at his family graveyard in Meherpur.
Earlier, Saidur and his spouse tested positive for COVID-19.
IU VC Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam, IU Teachers’ Association, Shapla Forum, Bangabandhu Parishad, IU Journalists’ Association and different teacher and student associations expressed their profound shock at the death of Saidur Rahman.
