A Chattogram court on Tuesday sent Golam Mostafa, an assistant sub-inspector of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police, to judicial custody in a drug case filed by the Rapid Action Battalion with the city’s Chawkbazar Police Station.
Chattogram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court judge Osman Gani passed the order after ASI Golam Mostafa had surrendered to the court, said CMP assistant commissioner (prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed.
ASI Golam Mostafa, son of Saidur Rahman of Charjabbar area in Noakhali, was working at the Detective Branch (port zone) of CMP.
According to the case statement, RAB arrested Rangunia Police Station constable Mosharraf Hossain with 2,700 Yaba pills at WASA Circle area in Chattogram on October 21, 2020.
RAB filed a case with Chawkbazar Police Station to that end.
Later, constable Mosharraf admitted to the offence and said that ASI Golam Mostafa had given him the Yaba pills.
On January 12, 2021, Mosharraf and Mostafa were charged in the case by the case investigating officer, Inspector Mainur Rahman.
Golam Mostafa got interim bail from the High Court after being on the run for several months.
ASI Mostafa was suspended and attached to Dampara police lines after being accused in the charge sheet, said CMP sources.
