The authorities of Jahangirnagar University expelled the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra Union president Mikha Piregu on charges of forging the signature and seal of the department’s chairman in 2017.

An official order signed by acting registrar Rahima Kaneez on Tuesday said that the decision came at a special syndicate meeting in November, 2020 with vice-chancellor Farzana Islam in chair.

The notice said that Mikha, a 44th batch’s student of the university’s marketing department, had been expelled for forging the signature and seal to sit for a special examination.

Marketing department chairman Kashedul Wahab Tuhin said the alleged student in 2017 had submitted an application to the examination controller’s office seeking permission to sit for a special examination which the authority rejected.

He submitted another application and adopted unfair means to sit for the examination by forging the signature and seal of the chairman of the department, he added.

Mikha, however, denied the allegation and urged the university authorities to review the decision following a proper investigation in this regard.

‘I submitted an application to the examination controller office, urging a permission to participate in the special examination in 2017, said Mikha.

As the VC rejected my application and asked me to submit another one.  I submitted a photocopy of the previous application which they accused as a signature forgery, he added.

Mikha Piregu was a student of marketing department under the academic session of 2014-15 and the joint secretary of central Bangladesh Chhatra Union newly formed central committee.

General secretary of the central committee Dipak Shil said that they would take further organisational steps in this regard after a central committee meeting.
