Akbar Hossain finished the first round of the fifth Paragon Professional Golf Tournament at the top of the leader’s board at the Army Golf Club course on Monday.
Akbar carded a three-under-par 69 to take a two-shot lead above the country’s premier golfer Siddikur Rahman, in the tournament offering a purse of Tk 15 lakh.
Siddik, who returned to competitive game after almost a year, carded one-under-par 71 to place second among 83 golfers.
The 26-year-old Cumilla boy Akbar, who is yet qualify for the Asian Tour and turned professional two years back, said he would try his best to hold onto his lead.
‘Siddik bhai is Siddik bhai, I cannot compare myself with him. He is a two-time Asian Tour winner and on the other hand, I have never won a domestic professional trophy,’ Akbar told New Age.
