FIFA refused to make any comment in response to Bangladesh Football Federation’s request to investigate the allegation made by Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club about a dubious refereeing call against them in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Jamal’s officials lodged a complaint to BFF against referee Jalal Uddin, questioning his decision of ruling out a late goal in their match against Bashundhara Kings on February 13.
Jamal believes that the match, which ended in a goalless draw at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, would have been won by them had Jalal not ruled out a goal by Gambian forward Pa Omar Jobe in the 88th minute for a foul on Kings’ defender Topu Barman.
BFF did not conduct any investigation and instead sent the video footage to FIFA Referees Department on February 14 to get a fair decision.
FIFA sent their reply to BFF on Friday, where they refused to comment on the issue, saying ‘In principle FIFA does not comment on referee’s decision.’
Referee Jalal also returned to the field as he conducted the match between Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra and Abahani Limited at the BNS on Saturday.
After not getting any verdict from FIFA, BFF officials said that there is nothing more they could do on the issue.
‘FIFA denied commenting on a referee’s decision. So, I don’t think there is anything more we [BFF] can do after that,’ BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag told New Age on Saturday.
BFF Referees Committee member Ibrahim Naser echoed Shohag.
‘How much longer will we be criticised? Earlier we did everything, we took the responsibility on our shoulders. This time the criticism was so serious in media that it forced us to send it to FIFA,’ he said.
BFF was ostracized by the media and fans for the poor standard of refereeing following this incident and as a response the federation reformed the nine-member referees’ committee on February 17.
Kazi Nabil Ahmed was named as the deputy chairman but the very next day he refused the position as he is the acting director in-charge of Abahani Limited.
