The Detective Branch of the police has arrested five of a robbery gang who robbed two houses at Hatirjheel and Mirerbagh in the capital in October and December 2020.
A team of detectives arrested them in separate drives in different parts of the capital on Friday, but disclosed the information in a briefing on Saturday.
The arrested were Morshed, Jahid Sheikh, Arman Hossain, Kabir Hossain Mona and Russel.
The police also seized a robbed firearm, 50 rounds of bullets, Tk 18 lakh and jewelleries from them.
The accused entered and robbed the houses after cutting off window grilles, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner for the Detective Branch AKM Hafiz Akter.
After entering a house by cutting off window grilles, they allegedly robbed a house holding the resident hostage at gun-point at Hatirjheel on October 20, 2020, said Hafiz.
He also said that they also robbed another house in the similar way on December 8 at Mirerbagh. The arrested had also been prosecuted in different cases filed with different police stations in the capital before the recent incidents, he added.
They also tied family members at gun-point and tortured them while robbing, said the official.
Two separate cases were filed against them with Hatirjheel police station in the robbery incidents, said the police.
