Woman beaten to death at Awami League leader’s house

A mentally-challenged woman was beaten to death at the house of a ruling Awami League leader on Sonabari Graveyard Road in Gachha area of Gazipur city on Friday.

The deceased was Esnehar Begum, 40, wife of rickshaw-van puller Hossain Ali, residents of Tongi Rail Station area.

Police and locals said that the inmates of Gazipur city AL leader Mohammad Shahidullah’s house caught the victim suspecting her to be a mobile phone thief when the victim went there in the morning.

They beat her mercilessly tying her hands and legs, locals said.

On information, police rushed to the spot, rescued her in a critical condition and took her to a local clinic from where she was shifted to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead in the afternoon.

Gachha police station officer-in-charge Ismail Hossain said that they picked up ‘some people’ for interrogation though no case was lodged until 10:00pm on Friday.
