Revenue earnings of mobile phone operator Banglalink inched up by 0.70 per cent or Tk 31.74 crore yearonyear in 2020, showed the latest data published by Banglalink’s parent company VEON on Thursday.
VEON published its earnings report that also includes the revenue earnings of Banglalink.
As per the annual report for 2020, Banglalink’s revenue increased to Tk 4,560.11 crore in 2020 from Tk 4,528.36 crore in the previous year.
The operator’s quarterly revenue earnings increased slightly to Tk 1,109.88 crore in the October-December period of 2020 against Tk 1,135.97 crore in the same period of 2019.
Commenting on the quarterly earnings, Banglalink chief executive officer Erik Aas said, ‘Banglalink maintained a satisfactory performance in 2020, which is reflected by our 2.4 per cent year-on-year revenue growth, 22.1 per cent year-on-year data revenue growth and 2.3 per cent service revenue growth in the October-December period of the year 2020.’
‘Thanks to our employees’ dedicated efforts and consistent support of our customers and partners, we succeeded to maintain the performance despite facing hurdles caused by several unprecedented situations,’ said Erik
‘Our data customer base also increased by 5.7 per cent during this period,’ he said, adding ‘Apart from our efforts, the impressive economic turnaround of the country and customers’ growing reliance on digital services contributed to our performance.’
‘Our major achievement in 2020 came in the form of two consecutive Ookla Speedtest awards, which are suggestive of our consistent progress in providing the fastest internet across the country,’ the CEO said.
Despite the surging demand for data throughout the year, Banglalink could serve its customers because of proper utilisation of our spectrum, introduction of innovative digital services and other technological advancements, he said.
