The Prisons Directorate will take actions today against 15 wardens of the Kashimpur-1 Central Jail as the home ministry directed it to follow recommendations of its investigation committee’s report over illegally arranging a meeting between Hallmark general manager Tushar Ahmed and a woman in a prison officer’s room on January 6.

Additional inspector general of prisons Abrar Hossain confirmed New Age on Friday that the Prisons Directorate on Sunday will suspend its eight wardens, who are among the 18 wardens who were found offenders by the investigation committee’s report submitted to the home ministry on Wednesday.

The home ministry earlier on Thursday suspended Kashimpur-1 Central Jail superintendent Ratna Roy, jailer Nur Mohammad Mridha and deputy jailer Golam Saklain as the Prison Directorate were not empowered to suspend its officers, who are among the 18 wardens.

The ministry on Thursday instructed the Prison Directorate to suspend the remaining eight wardens under its jurisdiction and take action after initiating departmental proceedings against seven other wardens.

The investigation committee recommended suspension of the superintendent, jailer, the deputy jailer and eight wardens and filing of departmental cases against seven others after finding them irresponsible in performing duties by illegally arranging the meeting between Tushar Ahmed and his second wife Asma Sheikh Sweeti at the officer’s room inside the jail in breach of the jail code.

dditional inspector general of prisons Abrar Hossain said that all the 18 wardens would face departmental proceedings and further action would be taken following the result of the departmental cases.

The investigation committee, led by additional inspector general of prisons Colonel Abrar Hossain, however, in its report, recommended punishment for Ratna, Nur Mohammad and 16 others for arranging Tushar’s meeting with a woman breaching the jail code.
