A total of five Bangladeshi cricketers have registered their names for the Indian Premier League player’s auction, which is going to take place on February 18 in Chennai, said a Bangladesh cricket Board official on Friday.
The five cricketers are — Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Mahmudullah, Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar.
‘Shakib, Mustafiz, Riyad [Mahmudullah], Soumya and probably Liton have registered their
names,’ BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan told New Age.
The IPL governing body through a statement has informed that a total of 1,097 cricketers have registered their names for the upcoming auction and out of them only 283 are foreign cricketers.
It also revealed that Shakib was one of the 11 cricketers with the highest base price of Rupees two crores, while the base price of other Bangladeshi cricketers are yet to be announced.
Shakib earlier played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament but this time he might find a new team as both of his old outfits is loaded with retained foreign cricketers.
Mustafiz was contacted by multiple IPL teams last season who wanted to recruit him as a replacement but could not play due to the Sri Lanka tour which eventually did not take place.
Mustafiz’s recent form and his improved performances in the Bangabandhu Twenty20 Tournament could make him a hot property in the auction.
