A man was killed by his elder brother at Chhatak in Sunamganj on Thursday afternoon following a quarrel over a family matter.
The deceased was Parvej Miah, 42, son of the late Lilu Maih of village Jamurail in Chhatak, the police said.
Local people said that wives of Parvej and his elder brother Samuj Miah were engaged in a heated altercation between them at about 2:00pm over a family matter and both brothers also joined their squabble in support of their respective wife.
At one stage, Samuj Miah hit Parvej with a spear leaving him critically injured, they said.
The police went to the spot after receiving the news and took the victim to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Parvej dead on arrival, said the police.
Chhatak police station officer-in-charge M Nazim Uddin told New Age that the dead body was sent to the hospital morgue for postmortem examinations.
Samuj was arrested as a suspected killer and the filing of a murder case also was underway, he said.
