Rohingya man killed in gunfight

A Rohingya youth was shot dead in a gunfight between two armed Rohingya groups at Palongkhali refugee camp under Ukhiya police station of Cox’s Bazar in the early hours on early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Jabed, 20, son of Mohammad Islam of Block-D under Ukhiya.

Mohammad Tariqul Islam, the commanding officer of 16 Armed Police Battalion in Cox’s Bazar, confirmed the information.

Two Rohingya armed groups were engaged in a gunfight at Gonarpara village under Palongkhali union at about 1:00 am. Jabed sustained bullet injury during the gunfight, he said.

Rohingya refugees rescued injured Jabed from the spot after the gunfight ended and took him to a local health centre, where duty doctors declared him dead, said the police officer.

The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
