The ninth edition of Bangladesh Games will begin with football from March 27, three days before the formal inauguration, the Bangladesh Olympic Association decided it in a meeting on Monday.
The meeting also finalised the schedule and venues of 11 disciplines out of the 31 disciplines that will be part of the country’s biggest sports extravaganza.
The Games was originally scheduled to be held in April 2020 but will begin on April 1 after it got postponed for an indefinite period due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The men’s and women’s football will be held respectively at the Bangabandhu National Stadium and the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium from March 27 to April 9.
The men’s and women’s cricket will be held respectively in Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar from April 1 to 10 while Archery will be held from April 1 to 7 at the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium in Tongi.
Badminton will take place at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium from March 28 to April 2, athletics from April 2 to 5 at the BNS, basketball from April 2 to 8 at the BKSP or at the Dhanmondi Gymnasium.
Among the other disciplines, fencing will be held from April 2 to 5 at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium, chess from April 2 to 7 at the Engineering Institute and bodybuilding from April 2 to 4 at the National Sports Council.
Boxing will take place at the Mohammad Ali Boxing Stadium from April 5 to 9, cycling road race will happen on April 2 at Hatirjheel and track cycling will be held from April 3 to 5 at the BKSP.
BOA deputy secretary-general Ashikur Rahman Miku disclosed all the details to journalists after the meeting.
‘We have decided some venues and dates today [Monday]…We will take all possible measures to maintain hygiene during the meet. We had discussed it in the meeting,’ said Miku.
