Bangladesh Hockey Federation on Monday called off the national team camp for the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy three days after the Asian Hockey Federation postponed the meet due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The camp started at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on January 12 with 32 players under coach Mahbub Harun.
‘We got the formal letter from AHF today [Monday]. So we decided to call off the training from tomorrow [Tuesday],’ BHF general secretary Mohammad Yousuf told New Age.
The sixth edition of the meet was scheduled to be held in Dhaka from March 11 to 19 featuring India, Pakistan, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and hosts Bangladesh.
The AHF on January 22 decided to postpone the competition for an indefinite period after consulting with hosts BHF and all other participating teams’ national associations.
Yousuf informed that the federation will not resume the camp until the AHF announces a new date and instead they will focus on domestic competitions, including the upcoming Bangladesh Games in April.
